C.O.P.P. (Care Of Poor People) is seeking volunteers, (members of churches, synagogues, social and school groups, company personnel, community leaders, Boy and Girl Scouts or anyone interested in helping others), to lend a hand with its 2010 event for Kansas City’s poor and homeless on Saturday, April 3 at 3244 Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri (one building north of ABC Storage*). Volunteers are also needed on Friday, April 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., to help set up tables, clothing racks, sort donations and prepare new items for handouts.

Alash Tuvan Throat Singing Concert
Alash, an ensemble of throat singers from the Republic of Tuva, has returned to Kansas! The Lansing Education Foundation has partnered with the Carnegie Arts Center to bring Alash back to the Leavenworth area for another otherwordly performance. Alash will be performing at the Lansing District Auditorium in Lansing, Kansas at 7:00pm on Thursday, March 25. Tickets can be purchased at the Carnegie Arts Center. (students: $6 in advance, $8 at the door; adults: $12 in advance, $15 at the door) Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit both the Carnegie Arts Center and Lansing Education Foundation.

JCPRD Early Childhood Development Centers to conduct open houses on April 7
3/10/10 - Open houses will be conducted from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at all three of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District's Early Childhood Development Centers.
During the open houses, parents will have an opportunity to visit with teachers and tour the centers. Enrollment materials will be available and enrollment at this time is encouraged as space is limited. This is the only open house for fall registration. A $30 nonrefundable fee will reserve a space for a child in the 2010-11 program, which begins in September.

Working Ladies' Golf League offered at Tomahawk Hills
3/10/10 - A Working Ladies Golf League is being offered beginning in early April at the Johnson County Park & Recreation District's Tomahawk Hills Golf Course, 17501 Midland Drive, Shawnee.
The league is for ladies 18 and older. League play and times are designed for intermediate golfers. Play begins in April and ends in August. Tee-off times are between 4 and 6 p.m. Players must be committed to play for 20 weeks. Participants must register prior to the April 1 meeting as there is a March 31 registration deadline. Search for the keywords "golf league" to find this program in the JCPRD's Activities Catalog and online listings.

El Centro is pleased to provide free classes in financial literacy, home improvement, and homebuyer education. These classes are open to the public and are presented at no charge. Participants are asked to register before each class.
All classes are held at 650 Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas, 66101. Please call (913) 677-0100 to register. Class schedules listed below.
El Centro is also organizing volunteer income tax assistance for households earning less than $49,000 per year.
